July 23, 2025, Birmingham – Legendary heavy metal frontman Ozzy Osbourne has passed away at the age of 76, his family confirmed today. In a statement, they said, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.”
Osbourne’s death comes just 17 days after his emotional farewell performance with Black Sabbath. On July 5, the original lineup reunited at Villa Park, Birmingham for the benefit concert Back to the Beginning, drawing 45,000 fans and streaming globally. Seated on a throne due to advanced Parkinson’s disease, Osbourne delivered a short solo set before joining bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward for classics like “Iron Man” and “Paranoid.”
For more than two decades Osbourne battled multiple health issues, most notably Parkinson’s disease diagnosed in 2003. Reflecting on his struggles, he once told Piers Morgan Uncensored: “It’s been five years of absolute hell for me and the family… I couldn’t have done it without them.” Despite his condition, he continued to record, most recently contributing vocals to the orchestral version of “Gods of Rock n Roll,” released in February 2025.
Tributes have poured in from across music and entertainment. Adam Sandler remembered Osbourne as the “prince of darkness” following their on‑screen reunion in Little Nicky, sharing photos and calling him a “legend” who influenced generations. Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones described Ozzy’s final Birmingham concert as a “lovely goodbye.”
Ozzy Osbourne rose to prominence as the voice of Black Sabbath with landmark albums like Black Sabbath (1970) and Paranoid (1970), pioneering heavy metal. After his 1979 departure from the band, he launched a solo career yielding hits such as “Crazy Train” and “Flying High Again.” He later reached new audiences through the MTV reality series The Osbournes and founded the Ozzfest touring festival. Twice inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, his influence on rock and metal remains unparalleled.
